Job Description

Position Summary:

This position may teach any of the Dental Assisting courses and Dental Hygiene courses to Oregon Institute of Technology students through Chemeketa Community College. Essential components of this position include participation in departmental and college activities, effective communication with students and staff, and use of technology.

Terms of Employment:

This is a 100%, 180-day academic assignment. Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program.
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
Receipt of official transcripts within 30 days of hire.

Salary Placement:
Salary placement is subject to current contract depending on education and experience

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:


Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools

Meets all scheduled and special classes, day, evening, and weekend
Provides students with course syllabi
Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required
Maintains college facilities and equipment
Participates in curriculum development; recommends course outline revisions
Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment; recommends library reference materials
Contributes suggestions for annual department budget and strategic planning
Keeps up to date on technological changes, developments in subject area, and teaching methodologies
Attends staff meetings as required
Works in a cooperative manner with other people in the department and college
Communicates in a timely manner with students and department personnel
Promotes positive image of college and college programs
Functions as a life-long learner
Participates in academic advising of students
Posts and maintains office hours

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Graduate of an ADA-accredited Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, or Dental Program
Three years of experience in dentistry within the past five (5) years – OR- Three years of teaching dental related courses within the past five (5) years
Must have the following certificates and/or licenses (Note that all certifications must be current):

Certification as a CDA through Dental Assisting National Board
Oregon Radiological Proficiency Certificate – OR- Oregon Dental Hygiene or Dental License
Oregon Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certification- OR- Oregon Dental Hygiene or Dental License
Oregon Sealant Certificate – OR- Oregon Dental Hygiene or Dental License
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR Certification or ability to obtain by September 1, 2019

Preferred Qualifications:
Expanded Functions Orthodontic Dental Assistant (EFODA) Certification.
Experience working in a learning management system, such as Blackboard.
Annual continuing education in the dental profession for the past two years (include in attachments).
Bachelor degree from an accredited institution with academic course work in health, allied health, education, or related field.
Master degree from an accredited institution with academic course work in health, allied health, education, or related field.
Teaching experience in an ADA-accredited institution within the past five (5) years.
Experience in curriculum design.
Oregon Radiological Proficiency Instructor Certificate.
Oregon Sealant Instructor Certificate.
Oregon Dental Soft Reline Certificate – OR- Oregon Dental Hygiene or Dental License.
Oregon Dental Soft Reline Teaching Certificate.
Oregon Subgingival Retraction Cord Certificate – OR- Oregon Dental Hygiene or Dental License.
Oregon Subgingival Retraction Cord Teaching Certificate.
CAD/CAM training and teaching experience.
Proficiency in digital dental radiography.
Proficiency in dental practice management software, such as Eagle Soft or Dentrix.
Experience assisting and teaching in multiple dental specialties.
Experience maintaining dental supplies and inventory.
Experience maintaining dental equipment.
Member of professional association (ADEA, ADAA, ADHA, or ADA).
Demonstrated experience working with culturally, linguistically and economically diverse students and/or communities.
EFDA Restorative Function Endorsement – OR- Dental Hygiene Restorative Endorsement or Dental License.
